An Oldie But A Goodie

Still Motion Wedding Photograph by Michael Alan Bielat Photographers in Buffalo, NY

I have been revisiting a lot of my old wedding and portrait photography in preparation of getting them touched up, re-sized and re-branded when I came across one of my favorite shots. This one was taken back in April of 2008 and that is Sherri and Tom that you see there. This photo really goes to show you how an artists technique and know-how can turn the ordinary into extraordinary to create memorable images that just “Wow”. Who needs Photoshop, this ‘blur‘ effect was done entirely in-camera!

Thanks!
Michael

New Website, New Brand

I think we have been going through business names like water these days. First was Michael Alan Photography way back in 2005. Last year, I felt bad that Becky was playing such a big role in the business yet wasn’t getting the recognition she deserved so we switched things to Paramour Photography back in 2009.

Becky is about 14 weeks pregnant with our second child so we both agreed that it will be best for her to focus on being the best mom she can be to our children and I will fly solo with the photography… Shooting a wedding has become way too taxing on her so she will be sitting on the sidelines for now. I do have a couple amazing second shooters to take Becky’s place for the rest of the 2010 wedding season so no worries there.

So I present to you the final re-branding of our business — Michael Alan Bielat. Same great service. same great photos.

Thanks for everyone’s support and understanding.

I was on the news!

Yeah that is totally the back of my head at around 1:40 of the video while I was photographing Dave and Jillianna on their wedding a couple days ago… Still counts in my book! haha.

In all seriousness, this is really crummy that the State of New York is closing all these parks… It almost makes me want to run for office because these career politicians are jokes! Knox Farm is one of my favorite places and it closed today.

Best In Show Contest Winners

Becky and I never imagined that this contest would have had so many participants voting. As you can tell it took us some time to tally up all the numbers. I really want to thank everyone for voting.

We finished tallying things up and have a winner for our 2009 Best in Show contest.

Keith and Lindsay had the most votes and the bride and groom now have an 11×14″ fine art canvas gallery wrap coming their way of the winning image.

Congrats guys!

Introducing Weddings 2.0

Now I am a geek at heart. I absolutely love my gadgets and technology in general. My wife will even vouch for me since I always try to sneak a cool new gadget in her Christmas and Birthday presents whenever I can.

So I was totally psyched when Apple announced their it. I watched Steve Jobs give his Keynote speech on the iPad and immediately hit me how we could use this little gizmo for our business.

Now, don’t get me wrong, the film photographer in me still loves tangible products like fine art proofs, canvas gallery wraps, coffee table books and wedding albums. However, these aren’t always “ideal” for carting around and showing off. An iPad on the other hand weighs in at under 2 lbs. and is the perfect tool to show off your wedding photographs. It’s small, chic and rugged and is the perfect portable solution to showcasing the images from your beautiful day. That is why all Wedding 2.0 Packages will include an album and other tangible items along with an iPad… or two ;)

Weddings 2.0 The Apple iPad for wedding photography

With that, I present to you Weddings 2.0 The new era of wedding photography has arrived and you have seen it right here first at Paramour Photography.

This wedding package will be available for all new clients of ours. Contact the studio at (716) 491-8854 for more information. I already have one already pre-ordered and will be able to show it off at client meetings come April 4th. So be sure to check it out and see all the crazy stuff that we will be doing with it. I can’t give everything away on the blog ;)

Enjoy!

Jen and Brendan Wedding Photography

Man, what a way to wrap up 2009. Jen and Brendan were married on New Year’s Eve down in Holley, NY. It was a little bit of a hike for us but the weather cooperated and the trip down went without a hitch. They stayed in a beautiful Bed and Breakfast where we got a lot of amazing photos taken before the ceremony. From there we finished off the day at Hickory Ridge Country Club for the ceremony and reception.

Here are some pics from their wedding. I have some new slideshow software for the blog so let’s see how it goes. You can forward the link to friends and family, order products and a ton of other stuff to take a look:

Happy New Year everyone and thank you Jen and Brendan for letting us capture your special day.

Lindsay and Keith Buckley Wedding Photography

Yesterday I photographed a wedding to remember. Keith is the lead singer for a famous hardcore band called Every Time I Die. It is pretty cool since they started out right here in Buffalo and are now touring all around the world. I am a fan of that music so this was a real treat to shoot.

So Lindsay and Keith were married yesterday on Halloween and it definitely rocked the house. The ceremony and reception was all done over at the amazing Asbury Hall. They did a whole masquerade theme which was really awesome. The weather was unfortunately pretty gross outside but we had plenty of places to shoot in Asbury Hall so it worked out just fine. I guess that about does it. Here are some images from their big day:

It’s All In The Technique

I photographed Tom and Sherry’s wedding way back in April of 2008 and I wanted to revisit it to mention something.

Buffalo NY Wedding Photographers | Still Motion
“Still Motion”

This image is one of my personal favorites and it seems to be a crowd favorite at client meetings as well. One thing that I have been hearing is: “How did you do that? Photoshop?”

The answer always seemed to surprise everyone when I say that it was actually all done in camera. All that I did in Photoshop was give the colors a little pep and throw in some vignetting… The blur from the other dances was created by a very long shutter speed… The bride and groom were totally in the know and that is why they stood so still for me ;)

Now you may be asking why I am showing this image. The reason is that I feel very strongly that as a professional photographer, you shouldn’t be “taking” pictures but rather “MAKING” them. I know times are tough these days and a lot of people are on a budget for their wedding. Maybe a buddy of yours has a camera or even a colleague at work who will shoot your wedding but just remember:

Invest in an artist, photography is forever.

This will conclude my public service announcement for the evening ;)
